WINZ (940AM) is a news/talk-formatted radio station licensed to Miami, Florida, serving the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area. The station is owned by Clear Channel Communications.
Its daytime signal reaches as far north as Ft. Pierce and as far west as Ft. Myers and Naples. The station has managed to score ratings in the Ft. Myers-Naples[1] and West Palm Beach-Boca Raton[2] radio markets despite its transmitter being far away, over 100 miles away in the case of Ft. Myers-Naples, and having no promotion.

[edit] Progressive talk programming
The station carries a full-time progressive talk format. The stations airs mostly syndicated programming from Air America Radio, Nova M Radio and Jones Radio Networks.
WINZ's lineup includes Don Imus, Randi Rhodes, Lionel, Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller, Phil Hendrie, and Mike Malloy.
WINZ is affiliated with CBS for hourly network newscasts and includes twice hourly updates from The Weather Channel.

The station signed on in its current format at 12:06P on July 12, 2004. Al Franken's program was the first in the new format. Before this station adopted liberal talk as its format, it was 940 Fox Sports Radio, an sports radio|all-sports station that competed with WQAM and WAFN.
Currently, WINZ is owned by Clear Channel Communications. Clear Channel purchased the station from West Palm Beach, Florida|West Palm Beach-based media entrepreneur Bud Paxson.

WINZ has changed their line-up on several occasions. Recently, Lionel was substituted for Thom Hartmann without any notice. WINZ management changed in early 2007 from Peter Bolger to Ken Charles. Other local shows have been dropped recently, such as Radioactive Politics.
[edit] Marlins baseball
WINZ, along with WAXY, is a favorite to be the flagship radio station of the Marlins Radio Network starting in 2008. In August and September 2007, WINZ will air 8 Marlins broadcasts that cannot air on WQAM due to Miami Dolphins and University of Miami Hurricanes Football.[3]
