Democracy Now! is a progressive television and radio program that provides independent news and investigative reports. Democracy Now! is syndicated to hundreds of stations around the world. It is produced by (and is the flagship program of) Pacifica Radio and is hosted by Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez.

HistoryEdit

Democracy Now! was started in 1996 at WBAI 99.5 FM in New York City by Amy Goodman, Juan Gonzalez, Salim Muwakkil, Larry Bensky and Julie Drizin.

The program was originally produced in the WBAI studios, and was only broadcast via radio. When a management dispute occurred, however, the show's studio was relocated to its current location, a converted fire station in New York's Chinatown. Television broadcasts have been added since.

Awards and RecognitionEdit

Democracy Now! has received many awards, including the George Polk Award and the Pinnacle Award for American Women in Radio and Television.
